This is an easier method that you can use to do the same thing from the GUI interface in either Windows 7 or Vista. To recap my earlier article, UAC is ANNOYING.&lt;/h2&gt;Note: Disabling UAC will lead to a less secure system, so be warned. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Disable UAC on Windows Vista &lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Open up Control Panel, and type in “UAC” into the search box. You’ll see a link for “Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off”:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;img alt="uac1.png" id="image1037" src="http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/uac1.png" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On the next screen you should uncheck the box for “Use User Account Control (UAC)”, and then click on the OK button.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;img alt="uac2.png" id="image1038" src="http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/uac2.png" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You’ll need to reboot your computer before the changes take effect, but you should be all done with annoying prompts.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Disable UAC on Windows 7&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Windows 7 makes it much easier to deal with UAC settings, and in fact you don’t have to completely disable UAC if you don’t want to. Just type UAC into the start menu or Control Panel search box.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;img src="http://www.howtogeek.com/geekers/up/sshot-2009-08-27-14-18-58.png" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You can simply drag the slider up or down, depending on how often you want to be alerted.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;img alt="Windows 7 UAC Settings" src="http://www.howtogeek.com/geekers/up/sshot-2009-08-27-14-15-48.png" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you drag it all the way down to the bottom, you’ll have disabled it entirely.&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7067810124376142613-3907958261776759363?l=pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/feeds/3907958261776759363/comments/default' title='Post Comments'/><link rel='replies' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/10/disable-user-account-control-uac-easy.html#comment-form' title='0 Comments'/><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/3907958261776759363'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/3907958261776759363'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/10/disable-user-account-control-uac-easy.html' title='Disable User Account Control (UAC) the Easy Way on Win 7 or Vista'/><author><name>rexon</name><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='32' height='32' src='http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5Ii0Btfuv7k/TACdncarCkI/AAAAAAAAAMU/RWQb_D_u7xY/S220/reeexxxx3.png'/></author><thr:total>0</thr:total></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7067810124376142613.post-3629384327695682682</id><published>2009-10-02T18:11:00.000-07:00</published><updated>2009-10-02T18:11:04.488-07:00</updated><title type='text'>Windows XP vs Windows VISTA vs Windows 7 (watch video)</title><content type='html'>&lt;object height="344" width="425"&gt;&lt;param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zMPPSF58lV8&amp;amp;color1=0xb1b1b1&amp;amp;color2=0xcfcfcf&amp;amp;hl=en&amp;amp;feature=player_embedded&amp;amp;fs=1"&gt;&lt;/param&gt;&lt;param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"&gt;&lt;/param&gt;&lt;param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"&gt;&lt;/param&gt;&lt;embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zMPPSF58lV8&amp;amp;color1=0xb1b1b1&amp;amp;color2=0xcfcfcf&amp;amp;hl=en&amp;amp;feature=player_embedded&amp;amp;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"&gt;&lt;/embed&gt;&lt;/object&gt;&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7067810124376142613-3629384327695682682?l=pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/feeds/3629384327695682682/comments/default' title='Post Comments'/><link rel='replies' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/10/windows-xp-vs-windows-vista-vs-windows.html#comment-form' title='0 Comments'/><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/3629384327695682682'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/3629384327695682682'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/10/windows-xp-vs-windows-vista-vs-windows.html' title='Windows XP vs Windows VISTA vs Windows 7 (watch video)'/><author><name>rexon</name><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='32' height='32' src='http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5Ii0Btfuv7k/TACdncarCkI/AAAAAAAAAMU/RWQb_D_u7xY/S220/reeexxxx3.png'/></author><thr:total>0</thr:total></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7067810124376142613.post-3563016627087345628</id><published>2009-09-29T01:07:00.000-07:00</published><updated>2009-09-29T01:07:07.352-07:00</updated><title type='text'>You receive a "Generic Host Process" error message</title><content type='html'>&lt;h3 id="tocHeadRef"&gt;Hotfix information&lt;/h3&gt;&lt;script type="text/javascript"&gt;                loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution');            &lt;/script&gt;A     supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. For Windows XP SP2, the     Generic Host Process error can potentially occur on any system at any time.     Although you receive the error message shortly after system startup, the actual     error occurred during the previous system shutdown. Because of the broad nature     of this issue, this hotfix was made available through Windows Update and     distributed to users who have Automatic Updates enabled to eliminate this problem     on Windows XP SP2 systems. For Windows XP SP2, you may experience one last     Generic Host Process error upon restart after you install this hotfix. This is     from the previous system shutdown before the new version installation was     completed. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Windows 2000, this hotfix is     only intended to correct the problems that are described in this article. Only     apply this hotfix to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix     may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by     this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows service pack that     contains this hotfix. To resolve this problem immediately, download the     hotfix from the following locations. &lt;h4 id="tocHeadRef"&gt;Windows Server 2003, 32-bit versions&lt;/h4&gt;&lt;script type="text/javascript"&gt; Once codenamed Clarksfield, the quad-core processors share the same Nehalem architecture and 45 nanometer process as the desktop part but are designed to consume much less power, although more at peak than the Core 2 Quad. The top-end Core i7 Extreme consumes 55W where regular quad Core i7 mobile chips will use 45W.&lt;br /&gt;Every model supports i7's Hyperthreading, which can run up to two program threads per core and run as many as eight threads on today's models. They also overcome the clock speed drop inherent to Core 2 Quad by using Turbo Boost: in tasks with less threads than actual cores, the new CPUs can shut down one or more cores while clocking the remaining cores much higher. Other changes to Intel's architecture, such as the point-to-point interface between the processor and memory, similarly translate from the desktop.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Three processors make the debut. Two regular processors, the i7-720QM and i7-820QM, run at 1.6GHz at 1.73GHz in normal use but ramp up to 2.8GHz and 3.06GHz respectively in Turbo Boost mode. They both also have 8MB of Level 2 cache. The Extreme variant is the i7-920XM and runs at 2GHz with all four cores but can scale up to 3.2GHz when necessary.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Systems are already available from &lt;a href="http://macnn.com/rd/141652==http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/09/23/alienware.core.i7.notebook.and.new.area.aurora/" rel="nofollow"&gt;Alienware&lt;/a&gt; and &lt;a href="http://macnn.com/rd/141653==http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/09/23/toshiba.core.i7.powered.qosmio.x500.dated.for.uk/" rel="nofollow"&gt;Toshiba&lt;/a&gt; with models from &lt;a href="http://macnn.com/rd/141654==http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/09/15/new.hp.envies.bring.core.i7.more/" rel="nofollow"&gt;HP&lt;/a&gt; and others coming soon.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Vendors such as Apple as well as more mainstream Windows notebooks aren't expected to come until early 2010 in earnest, when Intel's &lt;a href="http://macnn.com/rd/141655==http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/07/15/mobile.core.i7.i5.roadmap/" rel="nofollow"&gt;dual-core Arrandale&lt;/a&gt; Core i5 and Core i7 processors ship. The i7 should have all the features of Clarksfield outside of the core count, while the i5 should disable Hyperthreading.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;script src="http://static.feedroom.com/affiliate/_common/js/fr_embed.js" type="text/javascript"&gt;
&lt;/script&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div id="flashcontent"&gt;&lt;embed allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" flashvars="Environment=&amp;amp;SkinName=showcasevert&amp;amp;SiteID=pressroom&amp;amp;SiteName=Press Room&amp;amp;ChannelID=0d370c771eb69593b575c6ff084e966357d45934&amp;amp;StoryID=0e7d145b457325438da248925a1f5f8fa173831a&amp;amp;Volume=.5&amp;amp;HostURL=http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/09/23/intel.core.i7.mobile.now.official/&amp;amp;SWF_URL=http://pressroom.pb.feedroom.com/intel/pressroom/showcasevert/player.swf&amp;amp;VideoPlayer.videoPlayer1.JavascriptFolderURL=http://static.feedroom.com/affiliate/_common/js&amp;amp;AutoPlay=false&amp;amp;quality=high&amp;amp;Org=intel" height="236" id="Player" menu="false" name="Player" quality="high" src="http://pressroom.pb.feedroom.com/intel/pressroom/showcasevert/player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="551" /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;script type="text/javascript"&gt;

var so = new FlashObject ("http://pressroom.pb.feedroom.com/intel/pressroom/showcasevert/player.swf", "Player", "551", "236", "8", "#FFFFFF");
so.addVariable ("Environment", "");
so.addVariable ("SkinName", "showcasevert");
so.addVariable ("SiteID", "pressroom");
so.addVariable ("SiteName", "Press Room");
so.addVariable ("ChannelID", "0d370c771eb69593b575c6ff084e966357d45934");
so.addVariable ("StoryID", "0e7d145b457325438da248925a1f5f8fa173831a");
so.addVariable ("Volume", ".5");
so.addVariable ("HostURL", document.location.href);
so.addVariable ("SWF_URL", "http://pressroom.pb.feedroom.com/intel/pressroom/showcasevert/player.swf");
so.addVariable ("VideoPlayer.videoPlayer1.JavascriptFolderURL", "http://static.feedroom.com/affiliate/_common/js");
so.addVariable ("AutoPlay", "false");
so.addVariable ("quality", "high");
so.addVariable ("Org", "intel");
so.addParam ("quality", "high");
so.addParam ("allowFullScreen", "true");
so.addParam ("allowScriptAccess", "always");
so.addParam ("menu", "false");
so.write ("flashcontent");
&lt;/script&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;img src="http://photos.macnn.com/news/0909/intelcorei7mobile-lg.jpg" /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;h2 class="left"&gt;By Electronista &lt;/h2&gt;&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7067810124376142613-3283605861018103646?l=pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/feeds/3283605861018103646/comments/default' title='Post Comments'/><link rel='replies' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/intel-formally-reveals-core-i7-for.html#comment-form' title='0 Comments'/><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/3283605861018103646'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/3283605861018103646'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/intel-formally-reveals-core-i7-for.html' title='Intel formally reveals Core i7 for notebooks'/><author><name>rexon</name><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='32' height='32' src='http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5Ii0Btfuv7k/TACdncarCkI/AAAAAAAAAMU/RWQb_D_u7xY/S220/reeexxxx3.png'/></author><thr:total>0</thr:total></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7067810124376142613.post-4959090303723626641</id><published>2009-09-29T00:30:00.000-07:00</published><updated>2009-09-29T00:30:01.634-07:00</updated><title type='text'>Intel shows 22nm processor technology</title><content type='html'>&lt;div style="margin: 0pt; padding: 0pt;"&gt; As part of its Developer Forum keynote, &lt;a href="http://macnn.com/rd/141522==http://www.intel.com" rel="nofollow"&gt;Intel&lt;/a&gt; today showed the first working example of chips built on a 22 nanometer (nm) process. The process is even smaller than the &lt;a href="http://macnn.com/rd/141523==http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/09/14/intel.32nm.and.jasper.forest.enroute/" rel="nofollow"&gt;32nm technology&lt;/a&gt; just entering production and should run even more efficiently while fitting more into a given space. A single example chip about the size of a fingernail contains about 2.9 billion transistors and about 364 megabits (45.5MB) of static RAM.&lt;br /&gt;The semiconductor firm didn't say when full 22nm processors would ship, though the company normally employs a "tick, tock" schedule where it introduces a smaller manufacturing process (the "tick") and then a new architecture to exploit that process (the "tock"); 32nm is only due to enter full scale production late this year and makes 22nm more likely for 2011.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Simultaneously, the company also reiterated its plans for &lt;a href="http://macnn.com/rd/141524==http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/08/12/sandy.bridge.in.q4.2010/" rel="nofollow"&gt;Sandy Bridge&lt;/a&gt;, the architecture that will take advantage of the nearer 32nm process. It will integrate a new graphics core into the chip die itself, improving the performance of integrated video significantly compared to the existing Nehalem's separate graphics. These designs should also incorporate Advanced Vector Extensions, a new set of extensible instructions that can handle 256-bit data (versus 128-bit for SSE4) and process four tasks at once.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Previous &lt;a href="http://macnn.com/rd/141525==http://www.electronista.com/articles/08/08/14/intel.2009.1010.leaked.map/" rel="nofollow"&gt;roadmap leaks&lt;/a&gt; have also suggested that Sandy Bridge will allow for as many as eight cores in a single processor and 16MB of Level 3 cache on each chip.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;img src="http://photos.macnn.com/news/0909/intel22nm-lg1.jpg" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;img src="http://photos.macnn.com/news/0909/intel22nm-lg2.jpg" /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;h2 class="left"&gt;By Electronista Staf&lt;/h2&gt;&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7067810124376142613-4959090303723626641?l=pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/feeds/4959090303723626641/comments/default' title='Post Comments'/><link rel='replies' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/intel-shows-22nm-processor-technology.html#comment-form' title='0 Comments'/><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/4959090303723626641'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/4959090303723626641'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/intel-shows-22nm-processor-technology.html' title='Intel shows 22nm processor technology'/><author><name>rexon</name><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='32' height='32' src='http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5Ii0Btfuv7k/TACdncarCkI/AAAAAAAAAMU/RWQb_D_u7xY/S220/reeexxxx3.png'/></author><thr:total>0</thr:total></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7067810124376142613.post-1330554166035798686</id><published>2009-09-29T00:18:00.000-07:00</published><updated>2009-09-29T00:18:22.019-07:00</updated><title type='text'>Microsoft set to launch new anti-malware service</title><content type='html'>Microsoft is set to launch its new anti-malware service, Security Essentials. The utility is designed to help protect systems against viruses, spyware or other maliciously crafted software. Following the same basic structure as third-party antivirus software, Microsoft's program runs in the background and alerts users as potential threats arise.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Security has been a primary component of Apple's "Get a Mac" ads claiming Windows systems are prone to viruses and malware. Microsoft has also been criticized for slowly addressing security vulnerabilities and forcing consumers to pay for third-party software to protect their computers. It remains unknown if the new service will help to quell the negative appraisals.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Although the overall number of threats targeting the Mac platform is lower than Windows, several analysts suggest the Snow Leopard OS is still too weak. The integrated Mac OS X antivirus functionality appears to be in the early stages of development, with a short list of Trojans and a limited number of scanned programs and processes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Microsoft Security Essentials will be available beginning Tuesday for computers running Windows XP, Vista or 7.&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7067810124376142613-1330554166035798686?l=pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/feeds/1330554166035798686/comments/default' title='Post Comments'/><link rel='replies' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/microsoft-set-to-launch-new-anti.html#comment-form' title='0 Comments'/><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/1330554166035798686'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/1330554166035798686'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/microsoft-set-to-launch-new-anti.html' title='Microsoft set to launch new anti-malware service'/><author><name>rexon</name><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='32' height='32' src='http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5Ii0Btfuv7k/TACdncarCkI/AAAAAAAAAMU/RWQb_D_u7xY/S220/reeexxxx3.png'/></author><thr:total>0</thr:total></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7067810124376142613.post-6642954470905822487</id><published>2009-09-28T23:55:00.001-07:00</published><updated>2009-09-28T23:55:42.872-07:00</updated><title type='text'>Toshiba's new slim T100 series</title><content type='html'>&lt;div class="postBody"&gt; Just in time for the &lt;a href="http://news.cnet.com/10309561"&gt;Windows 7 invasion&lt;/a&gt;, Toshiba has announced a new line of slim laptops, dubbed the T100 series. With Intel ultra-low-voltage processors (or ULV), the 13.3-inch T135 and 11.6-inch T115 are both less than one inch thick, have LED displays, and multi-touch touchpads. &lt;br /&gt;Like other recent Toshiba laptops, they have the useful sleep-and-charge feature, which lets you use a USB port to charge iPods and other devices, even when the system is asleep or off. &lt;br /&gt;Here are some basic specs for the two new models, and stay tuned for a full review of the 13-inch T135, currently undergoing testing in the CNET Labs. One of the themes of the upcoming Intel Developer Forum (starting Tuesday) will be the chip giant's foray into the smartphone and mobile Internet device (MID) markets. Intel's current Atom chip is fine for Netbooks but has had little impact on MIDs and zero impact on smartphones, where it is simply too power hungry to be usable.&lt;br /&gt;Enter Moorestown. A much more power efficient Atom chip, due by 2010, that should find its way into high-end LG smartphones, MIDs from Asian device makers, and tablets (from HP? Dell?).&lt;br /&gt;Just so happens that Apple is doing analogous chip development. When Apple acquired chip design firm P.A. Semi in March 2008 it got a team of very capable engineers that, almost certainly, are designing silicon for future iPhones, iPods, and tablets.&lt;br /&gt;But it's really not even necessary to speculate about the future. The Apple chip has already arrived (see photo). Some analysts believe that the Apple-branded chip in the iPhone is a fairly unique design and that Apple is simply using Samsung as a chip "foundry" or manufacturer. That would mean Apple is already competing with Intel's Atom, not to mention the host of ARM chip suppliers such as Texas Instruments and Qualcomm.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a name='more'&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And where might Apple supply its own silicon in the future? Beyond the iPhone--where Intel clearly has nothing to offer currently--there's the expected emerging tablet and MID markets. Make the iPod touch's screen a few inches bigger diagonally, add a few more features and you theoretically have a MID. (Some, of course, will argue that the iPod is already a MID/media player.) Make the screen even bigger (8 to 10 inches), give it more compute and graphics horsepower, and add a few more software and hardware bells and whistles, and you theoretically have a next-generation Apple tablet.&lt;br /&gt;Those are all markets where Intel's Moorestown (and, later, Medfield) will compete.&lt;br /&gt;Apple has a current market capitalization of about $165 billion (Intel's is about $110 billion). Two heavyweights with two competing visions of small devices. Will one of the big battlegrounds of the future be Apple tablets versus Intel-based tablets? Or--perish the thought--an Apple Netbook using an Apple chip instead of an Intel Atom? It's tantalizing to speculate.&lt;br /&gt;And 2010 is just around the corner. It should be an interesting year for fresh new device designs and equally interesting competition between two computer industry Goliaths.&lt;br /&gt;Note: Here's the official Intel description of Moorestown: "Intel's second-generation MID platform, which consists of a System on Chip (codenamed 'Lincroft') that integrates a 45nm Intel Atom processor core, graphics, video and memory controller. The platform also includes an input/output (I/O) hub, codenamed 'Langwell,' that includes a range of I/O blocks and supports wireless solutions.&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7067810124376142613-3377837955032356102?l=pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/feeds/3377837955032356102/comments/default' title='Post Comments'/><link rel='replies' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/intel-and-apple-future-rivals.html#comment-form' title='0 Comments'/><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/3377837955032356102'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/3377837955032356102'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/intel-and-apple-future-rivals.html' title='Intel and Apple--future rivals?'/><author><name>rexon</name><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='32' height='32' src='http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5Ii0Btfuv7k/TACdncarCkI/AAAAAAAAAMU/RWQb_D_u7xY/S220/reeexxxx3.png'/></author><thr:total>0</thr:total></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7067810124376142613.post-5121111176329092427</id><published>2009-09-28T23:53:00.000-07:00</published><updated>2009-09-28T23:53:22.608-07:00</updated><title type='text'>Apple dictated Light Peak creation to Intel</title><content type='html'>&lt;div class="news_item_header"&gt;&lt;div class="news_item_title"&gt;Apple dictated Light Peak creation to Intel&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="news_item_date"&gt;2009-09-28 16:41&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="news_item_author"&gt;Denis Gupalo&lt;/div&gt;&lt;img align="left" alt="Apple logo" hspace="5" src="http://img.x-drivers.com/logos/apple_logo.png" title="Apple logo" /&gt;Remember how Intel showed off its new, advanced optical standard -- Light Peak -- this past week on a Hackintosh? Well it turns out there's more to that story than you probably know, and it all leads back to some revealing facts about the connection... literally and figuratively. Engadget has learned -- thanks to an extremely reliable source -- that not only is Apple complicit in the development of Light Peak, but the company actually brought the concept to Intel and asked them to create it. More to the point, the new standard will play a hugely important role in upcoming products from Cupertino.&lt;br /&gt;According to documents we've seen and conversations we've had, Apple had reached out to Intel as early as 2007 with plans for an interoperable standard which could handle massive amounts of data and "replace the multitudinous connector types with a single connector (FireWire, USB, Display interface)." From what we've learned, the initial conversations (and apparent disagreements) were had directly between Steve Jobs and Paul Otellini.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a name='more'&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you were wondering about that Apple-blue motherboard we saw at IDF or the aforementioned Hackintosh demo, this should explain everything. Cupertino apparently had specific demands for the standard, including the desire for a single port solution, and an insistence that optical was the only logical choice for such a connector type. Based on the documents we had a look at, the short-term plans seem to involve a one-size-fits-all solution (somehow allowing for multiple connections but avoiding "double dongles") which would enable users to connect a variety of devices into a single Light Peak port, while slightly longer-term plans will mean Light Peak obviates the need for almost every type of connector you use today. Translation: Apple products in the near future could come equipped with only a Light Peak port (or ports) to handle your networking, display driving, and general connectivity.&lt;br /&gt;What happens next, however, is where the story really gets interesting. Based on what we've learned, Apple will introduce the new standard for its systems around Fall 2010 in a line of Macs destined for back-to-school shoppers -- a follow-up to the "Spotlight turns to notebooks" event, perhaps. Following the initial launch, there are plans to roll out a low-power variation in 2011, which could lead to more widespread adoption in handhelds and cellphones. The plans from October 2007 show a roadmap that includes Light Peak being introduced to the iPhone / iPod platform to serve as a gateway for multimedia and networking outputs. While the timing doesn't line up, a low-powered Light Peak sounds like the kind of technology that would be perfect for a device with a need for broad connectivity but limited real estate for ports... like a tablet.&lt;br /&gt;Apparently, there are also plans for a new, low-power Atom chip due next year meant to compete with current CPUs driving mobile devices like the iPhone, netbooks, and set-top boxes. The indication we've been given is that that product (coupled with the Light Peak standard) could provide the basis for some "big" MID news in 2010... but not from Apple. As we saw at the announcement, Sony is also a first-tier partner (though not nearly in the connected way Apple is), and it looks likely the company could find use for that pairing (especially with its entry into the netbook market this year). We can't see Apple utilizing an Atom chip in anything, especially when it's busy cranking away with P.A. Semiconductor and its rumored projects.&lt;br /&gt;In the end, we can't say we know or understand Apple's complete plans for the standard, but what is notable is that the company is pushing for an all-on-one connectivity solution, and pushing hard. That means Cupertino is at least prepared to abandon the standards we now know for a singular solution, and potentially just skip over forthcoming offerings like USB 3.0 (or at least downplay their use). It's not an uncommon move for Apple, but in the past those choices have had major repercussions -- and this pairing is extremely reminiscent of the USB / iMac story (Intel also created that standard, which Apple then popularized). We're going to keep our ears to the ground on this news, but for now, it's an interesting peek behind the curtain, and a possible glimpse into the future of connectivity.&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7067810124376142613-5121111176329092427?l=pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/feeds/5121111176329092427/comments/default' title='Post Comments'/><link rel='replies' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/apple-dictated-light-peak-creation-to.html#comment-form' title='0 Comments'/><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/5121111176329092427'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/5121111176329092427'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/apple-dictated-light-peak-creation-to.html' title='Apple dictated Light Peak creation to Intel'/><author><name>rexon</name><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='32' height='32' src='http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5Ii0Btfuv7k/TACdncarCkI/AAAAAAAAAMU/RWQb_D_u7xY/S220/reeexxxx3.png'/></author><thr:total>0</thr:total></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7067810124376142613.post-5793246808007886224</id><published>2009-09-26T04:19:00.002-07:00</published><updated>2009-09-26T04:19:35.918-07:00</updated><title type='text'>Images of Microsoft "Pink" Phones Leak</title><content type='html'>&lt;div class="news_item_header"&gt;&lt;div class="news_item_title"&gt;Images of Microsoft "Pink" Phones Leak&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="news_item_date"&gt;2009-09-25 01:14&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="news_item_author"&gt;Denis Gupalo&lt;/div&gt;&lt;img align="left" alt="Microsoft logo" height="27" hspace="5" src="http://img.x-drivers.com/logos/microsoft_logo_1.png" style="height: 27px; width: 150px;" title="Microsoft logo" width="150" /&gt;Its been a rough week for Microsoft in the secrecy department. First pictures of its Courier bi-screen multi-touch tablet leaked, and now pictures of its upcoming smart phone hardware, codenamed "Pink" have also hit the internet, courtesy of Gizmodo. The site posted pictures of two upcoming Microsoft phones, which it swears are 100 percent authentic.&lt;br /&gt;The first phone is dubbed "Turtle" and looks akin to a squat Palm Pre. Like the Pre, it has a sliding screen to feature a QWERTY keyboard. It looks like it has a head phone jack on its top and a microSD card to the left of the keyboard. On the back face there's a camera and what looks like possibly a flash.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;img alt="Microsoft " height="289" src="http://img.x-drivers.com/news/2009/124.jpg" style="height: 289px; width: 400px;" title="Microsoft" turtle="" width="400" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;em&gt;Microsoft "Turtle"&lt;/em&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;The second Pink phone, the "Pure" looks kind of like the "Slide" variant of the T-Mobile Sidekick or the Samsung A877. It appears to have a memory card slot below the keyboard, a headphones jack to the left of the keyboard, and a flash+camera in the back.&lt;br /&gt;The phone's similarity to the Sidekick is hardly coincidental. Microsoft bought Danger, one of the makers of the Sidekick's interface, almost two years ago. And Microsoft has partnered with Sharp to produce the hardware for the phones -- and you guessed it, Sharp made the Sidekick's hardware. The phones will be Microsoft and Sharp cobranded.&lt;br /&gt;Reportedly the phones will be receiving Zune services features (such as the Zune Pass subscription service) and will also have its own app store.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;img alt="Microsoft " height="365" pure="" src="http://img.x-drivers.com/news/2009/125.jpg" style="height: 365px; width: 400px;" title="Microsoft" width="400" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;em&gt;Microsoft "Pure"&lt;/em&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;Will the phone's be competitive with the iPhone, currently the most popular consumer smartphone on the market in terms of "toy" appeal? It's hard to say. The phones are bulkier and have larger screens. However, they will also likely feature the powerful Windows 7 Mobile OS, and have a physical keyboard, a welcome step up from the iPhone's virtual keyboard. One immediate question that has not yet been answered is whether they might be packing NVIDIA's Tegra onboard, like the new Zune HD. If they have it, they could be competitive gaming platforms to the iPhone as well.&lt;br /&gt;Early comments regarding the images have not been kind to Microsoft, though, with some bloggers saying the phones look like uglier version of the Sidekick, and inferior to the iPhone/Palm Pre.&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7067810124376142613-5793246808007886224?l=pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/feeds/5793246808007886224/comments/default' title='Post Comments'/><link rel='replies' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/images-of-microsoft-pink-phones-leak.html#comment-form' title='0 Comments'/><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/5793246808007886224'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/5793246808007886224'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/images-of-microsoft-pink-phones-leak.html' title='Images of Microsoft &quot;Pink&quot; Phones Leak'/><author><name>rexon</name><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='32' height='32' src='http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5Ii0Btfuv7k/TACdncarCkI/AAAAAAAAAMU/RWQb_D_u7xY/S220/reeexxxx3.png'/></author><thr:total>0</thr:total></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7067810124376142613.post-562149466907785899</id><published>2009-09-26T04:19:00.000-07:00</published><updated>2009-09-26T04:19:03.120-07:00</updated><title type='text'>NVIDIA working with Google on Chrome OS Tegra netbooks</title><content type='html'>&lt;div class="news_item_header"&gt;&lt;div class="news_item_title"&gt;NVIDIA working with Google on Chrome OS Tegra netbooks&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="news_item_date"&gt;2009-09-25 01:48&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="news_item_author"&gt;Denis Gupalo&lt;/div&gt;&lt;img align="left" alt="NVIDIA logo" height="112" hspace="5" src="http://img.x-drivers.com/logos/nvidia2_logo.png" style="height: 112px; width: 150px;" title="NVIDIA logo" width="150" /&gt;An NVIDIA executive on Thursday confirmed the company is working with Google to introduce a netbook containing Chrome OS and NVIDIA's Tegra mobile device platform. This is in addition to systems based on Windows Mobile, Windows CE and Google Android, all of which have been appearing. Quoted in a Wednesday JkOnTheRun report, NVIDIA GM of Mobile Business Mike Rayfield said his company is working closely with Google in developing such a product.&lt;br /&gt;Rayfield also cleared up NVIDIA's mission for the Tegra platform. Windows Mobile and Google Android will power Tegra-based smarpthones, while Windows CE and Google Chrome OS will do the same for netbooks. Linux is being considered, but only if a manufacturer requires it.&lt;br /&gt;NVIDIA also sees its platform replacing netbooks running on Intel's Atom processor, as it consumes less energy while providing the same or better performance. While it has limits, the majority of netbook users only perform light duty operations on their netbooks, including watching online videos, playing back local multimedia files and browsing the web or checking their e-mail; all are easily handled by Tegra.&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7067810124376142613-562149466907785899?l=pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/feeds/562149466907785899/comments/default' title='Post Comments'/><link rel='replies' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/nvidia-working-with-google-on-chrome-os.html#comment-form' title='0 Comments'/><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/562149466907785899'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/562149466907785899'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/nvidia-working-with-google-on-chrome-os.html' title='NVIDIA working with Google on Chrome OS Tegra netbooks'/><author><name>rexon</name><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='32' height='32' src='http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5Ii0Btfuv7k/TACdncarCkI/AAAAAAAAAMU/RWQb_D_u7xY/S220/reeexxxx3.png'/></author><thr:total>0</thr:total></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7067810124376142613.post-117608412528544225</id><published>2009-09-26T04:17:00.000-07:00</published><updated>2009-09-26T04:17:19.974-07:00</updated><title type='text'>Intel outlines future of interactive television</title><content type='html'>&lt;div class="news_item_header"&gt;&lt;div class="news_item_title"&gt;Intel outlines future of interactive television&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="news_item_date"&gt;2009-09-25 01:51&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="news_item_author"&gt;Denis Gupalo&lt;/div&gt;&lt;img align="left" alt="Intel logo" height="60" hspace="5" src="http://img.x-drivers.com/logos/intel_logo.png" style="height: 60px; width: 150px;" title="Intel logo" width="150" /&gt;Intel has introduced the CE4100 SoC. The 45nm chip - expected to encourage the development of interactive television content and applications - is fully compatible with Blue-ray, Digital TV and other entertainment devices.&lt;br /&gt;"Intel is applying Moore's law to CSpace with the CE4100 SoC, previously codenamed Sodaville," explained Intel's Eric Kim. "The CE4100 is based on Atom architecture and will be fully compatible with the CE3100. The new chip offers a number of improvements, including support for high-end audio and MPEG 4, while doubling the 2D/3D speed. The chip also features an integrated NAND controller, along with DDR2 and DDR3 memory support."&lt;br /&gt;According to Kim, the future of interactive television is contingent on three primary factors: breakthrough technology, a positive user experience and a solid business model.&lt;br /&gt;"All three must converge," said Kim. "The radio, telephone and television took years until they realized a successful business model. And we know that consumers have said and continue to say 'don't' make my TV work like a PC.' So, we need to create rich experiences while retaining the safe, simple, social feeling associated with traditional television watching."&lt;br /&gt;He added that broadcast networks were "quickly" moving away from traditional, linear television models.&lt;br /&gt;"Traditional broadcast networks are quickly shifting from a linear model to a multi-stream, Internet-optimized model to offer consumers digital entertainment that complements the TV such as social networking, 3-D gaming and streaming video." &lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="center"&gt;&lt;img alt="" border="0" src="http://img.x-drivers.com/news/2009/126.jpg" /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;Kim was later joined on stage by David Wadhwani of Adobe, who explained that Flash 10 was an important "enabling technology" that would help developers "blend" video, 3-D animation, gaming and rich graphics. Wadhwani confirmed that Intel is working with Adobe to port Flash Player 10 to Intel CE media processors - which will optimize the playback of H.264 video and enable Flash-based television content.&lt;br /&gt;"The architecture of Intel media processors provides a powerful and innovative platform to showcase Flash-based applications in a vivid way," opined Wadhwani. "Flash Player 10 combined with the performance of the Intel media processor and its support for standards such as OpenGL ES 2.0 offers a compelling environment for Flash-based games, videos and other rich Web content and applications."&lt;br /&gt;Intel's Justin Rattner expressed similar sentiments and predicted that high-quality 3-D video will someday soon be streamed to living rooms around the world.&lt;br /&gt;"By the year 2015, you can expect 15 billion consumer devices capable of delivering TV content with billions of hours of video available," said Rattner. "We'll need much more sophisticated ways to organize content and provide it on demand. Intel Labs researchers are working on evolving technology so people can get the TV content they want, when they want it and wherever they want it."&lt;br /&gt;Rattner also spoke to a life-size 3-D version of 3ality Digital CTO Howard Postley about the intense computation and bandwidth required for capturing and managing 3-D TV in real time. The two discussed how a new high-speed optical I/O technology from Intel - codenamed "Light Peak" - will improve bandwidth and flexibility while significantly reducing the complexity and cost of digital downloads.&lt;br /&gt;According to Postley, 50 copper-based cables on the set of a 3-D shoot today could eventually be replaced with a single optical cable with Light Peak technology.&lt;div class="blogger-post-footer"&gt;&lt;img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7067810124376142613-117608412528544225?l=pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com' alt='' /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;</content><link rel='replies' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/feeds/117608412528544225/comments/default' title='Post Comments'/><link rel='replies' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/intel-outlines-future-of-interactive.html#comment-form' title='0 Comments'/><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/117608412528544225'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7067810124376142613/posts/default/117608412528544225'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://pinoysoftnews.blogspot.com/2009/09/intel-outlines-future-of-interactive.html' title='Intel outlines future of interactive television'/><author><name>rexon</name><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='32' height='32' src='http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5Ii0Btfuv7k/TACdncarCkI/AAAAAAAAAMU/RWQb_D_u7xY/S220/reeexxxx3.png'/></author><thr:total>0</thr:total></entry><entry><id>tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7067810124376142613.post-8721277419017509803</id><published>2009-09-26T04:16:00.001-07:00</published><updated>2009-09-26T04:16:29.191-07:00</updated><title type='text'>Freecom Announces World's First USB 3.0 Hard Drive</title><content type='html'>&lt;div class="news_item_header"&gt;&lt;div class="news_item_title"&gt;Freecom Announces World's First USB 3.0 Hard Drive&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="news_item_date"&gt;2009-09-25 02:49&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="news_item_author"&gt;Denis Gupalo&lt;/div&gt;&lt;img align="left" alt="Freecom logo" hspace="5" src="http://img.x-drivers.com/news/2009/31.png" title="Freecom logo" /&gt;Freecom, a Mitsubishi Kagaku Media company, today announced the 'Hard Drive XS 3.0' - the first external hard drive in the world to offer 'SuperSpeed USB' technology.&lt;br /&gt;Using USB 3.0, Freecom is offering transfer speeds of approximately 130 MB/s - significantly faster than existing solutions - enabling users to back up and upload information in a matter of seconds.
